You can play as the Night elves, Orc, Undead or the Humans. Each race has its unique set of warriors, archers, spell casters, creatures and heroes. Heroes are powerful units, each with their own abilities and attributes.
There are two campaigns. One of them you have to be the night elves and fight against the Naga. In the other campaign you have to be a beast master hero and have trolls as allies.
The random maps are very fun. You can choose your race and the map you want to play on. Each player starts with a main building and a gold mine. You have to build buildings, recruit soldiers, monsters and spell casters and defeat your enemies.
You can also play scenario maps in Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne. You be a hero and fight enemies or play tower defence. You can also play Dota maps if you have them. In Dota maps you have to be a hero of your choice and fight alongside your allies. You have to fight your way to the enemy building and destroy it
